TBYL Garage Sale, coming soon!

It’s an exciting time at the moment for That Book You Like! The winds of change are picking up, steering TBYL away from retail and right towards more reading, reading, reading and of course, lots of writing.

As such, I’m looking to clear all the books left in the TBYL Store, and I’m having a Garage Sale to do it!

TBYL Book Club, so much on!

The May TBYL Book Club kicks off today and I’d love to hear what you think on our theme for the month.

Of course, normally we read and discuss a single book, but this month I thought in keeping with the month of Mothers’ Day that we could have a conversation about Mums and Books. About our favourite storybook mums and about books that remind us of our mum, or other significant women in our lives.

20130527-094434.jpgI’m going to post our first conversation-starter on Facebook NOW! Pop on over, like us, and join in the conversation. You’ll be able to recognise the book club conversations, as they’ll be proceeded with {TBYL Book Club}.

I’ll keep asking questions until Wednesday evening, and hopefully the conversations will grow from there. Please feel free to contribute your answers and questions as you’d like.

Also, I’m thrilled to be able to announce details about our June TBYL Book Club!

June at That Book You Like… will be Intrepid Month, during which we’ll enjoy the first two instalments in Chris Allen’s Intrepid Series, Defender and Hunter.

Who’s up for some action?!

At the beginning of 2012 I was lucky enough to read Defender, the first in the Intrepid series by author, Chris Allen. I was immediately drawn into the world of Intrepid agent, Alex Morgan, hard-hitting and action packed, I enjoyed every page. It was followed up by Hunter (Momentum), a new Alex Morgan story which was fantastically international, intricate in its detail and cast with a range of beautifully developed characters, all with their own missions and methods of achieving them.

HunterAlex Morgan – policeman, soldier and spy for Intrepid, the black ops division of Interpol – is on the hunt for Serbian war criminals. But these guys were never going to let it be that simple. An assassination attempt is made on the presiding judge of the international tribunal. Days later, the judge’s daughter, the famous and beautiful classical pianist Charlotte Rose, vanishes in mysterious circumstances.

The girl is not just a pretty face and the daughter of a judge, however. She’s also the goddaughter of Intrepid’s veteran commander, General Davenport. It’s up to Morgan and the Intrepid team to track the kidnappers and the missing woman before the very fabric of international justice is picked apart at its fraying edges.

Part James Bond and part Jason Bourne, Alex Morgan must walk the line between doing the right thing and getting the job done. And this time he’s got permission to make it personal.

I’m very excited to announce that this month’s book club will discuss both Defender and Hunter. You’re invited to read one or both, and join in the conversation in the week starting 24 June 2013.

To purchase copies of the books, you can click here for Defender (an ebook) or shop here at the TBYL Store for Hunter. Don’t miss out on this incredible adventure.

To make Intrepid Month even more immersive, I’m excited to be able to holding our next TBYL Event online. “Meet Chris and Alex” will be an online chat with Intrepid author, Chris Allen. Chris will be chatting on the TBYL Facebook page on the evening of Monday, 24 June 2013. Join us at 7:30pm to ask Chris questions, and get involved in what’s bound to be a fascinating discussion.

It’s free, online and a great opportunity to find out a little more about Chris, about his character Alex Morgan, and maybe even a few secrets about what’s next for the Intrepid series. You don’t have to book, but if you’d like to RSVP please do so here…

I hope you’ll join us!

An Announcement: TBYL Book Club

I think I’ve made a decision about the TBYL Book Club

I love the TBYL Book Club. It’s been fantastic to hear what you guy think about our monthly books and the feedback has been really positive. Many of you have told me that it’s a fantastic chance to get involved in a book club, especially for when you’re not able to join a ‘real-life’ club for one reason or another.

TBYLBookClubNoBackground350Last year I set up an online home for the club using SocialGO, which many of you joined. It was great having our own space, but over the last couple of months it’s been a bit difficult to get a really good ‘flow’ of discussions. I think for people it’s not always possible to visit the site, and it can be difficult to remember to visit the site repeatedly.

As we all get busier (myself included) TBYL needs to continually adjust and adapt to work smarter, not harder… and for that reason I’m proposing that we now conduct the TBYL Book Club on the existing TBYL Facebook page.

I’d love to know what you think about this idea?!

I’m going to try this out in May. The structure of the club will remain the same – we’ll discuss the book(s) together starting 27 May 2013. The discussion will start off with some questions from me on Facebook and hopefully the conversation will grow from there.

Now I hear you asking… ‘Which book?!’

I thought it might be nice to chat about a theme for the May TBYL Book Club, rather than a single book. Next week is Mothers’ Day and it got me thinking about my favourite ‘literary mothers’. For our club I’d like us to have a conversation about Mums and Books. About our favourite storybook mums and about books that remind us of our mum, or other significant women in our lives.

Will you join us?

If you’d like to be involved, make sure you Like Us on Facebook so you don’t miss the chats. If you’d like to know a little bit more about the TBYL Book Club you can visit the TBYL website here. After we’ve given this new approach a try, I’ll look to you guys for some feedback on how you think it went. I hope you’ll get involved.

Let’s start the TBYL Treasure Hunt

This week, I feel like playing! Plus, it’s been a little while since I had a good give-away and so this afternoon I’m starting the…

TBYL Treasure Hunt!!

You could win books, books and more books! There are three prize packs to give away!

To play along, all you need to do is:

1. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and the blog for the daily question (first question will be posted at 2pm Monday, 15 October).

2. Go in search of the answer to the question. Mostly the answers will be internet-based, so you’ll need to have access to the www.

3. Once you’ve found the answer, send an email to info@thatbookyoulike.com.au which includes your name, postal address and of course, the answer to the question. Include “Treasure Hunt” in the subject line, along with the day your playing.

4. All answers need to be emailed by midnight (EST) of the day that the question was posted.

5.  You can answer everyday. The more questions you answer, the more chance you have to win.

6. The Treasure Hunt will end midnight Thursday, 18 October and I’ll draw winners at random once the competition is closed. I’ll announce the winners on Monday 22 October.

BONUS: Spread the word! If your friend answers a question and says that you sent them, you’ll receive an extra competition entry!

There’s just one little condition to mention – anyone can play, but prizes are only available to those with an Australian postal address.

I really hope you’ll enjoy this game! If you’ve any questions, just give me a shout!

Celebrating 1000+

I spend a lot of time chattering on Facebook, and I’ve had the most amazing time watching our bookish community grow, slowly but steadily over the last year. The page is a great way to connect with people day-to-day, and to make sure that you guys know about all the fun things going on at TBYL; in The Store, at the TBYL Book Club and of course, on The Blog.

Now, after a bit of a membership drive, it’s time to celebrate! We’ve hit 1000+ bookish Likers and as promised, I’ve got a super give-away for you…

One lucky person will win a gift voucher for $50 off their next purchase from the TBYL Store, plus the gorgeous Alavu necklace (RRP $72, available from The Store) pictured here.

All you need to do is send an email to info@thatbookyoulike.com.au; subject line “1000”; and include your name in the body of the email as well as a note about how you found out about TBYL.

A winner will be drawn at random, 8pm Wednesday 22 August 2012 and notified by email.

Join in and win!

I want more friends. I want more friends so badly, I’m willing to engage in bribery.

This week, I’ve got a copy of Sonya Hartnett’s Of a Boy (reviewed yesterday) to give away to a lucky player…

All you’ve got to do to be in the running is to ‘Like’ the Facebook page of That Book You Like…, or refer a friend to the page (they’ll need to ‘Like’ and then mention your name in a post on the wall, e.g. “Mandi J sent me”)  The more times your name is mentioned, the more entries into the competition!

And because we like you so much, those who are already friends of TBYL will automatically be entered into the comp.

So come in spinner, entries close Friday 13 May 2011.
